Frequently Asked Questions
How is D.A.D.S name significant?
D.A.D.S. is an acronym for Dixie Awning Deck & Sunroom
We thought long and hard about what we love to build and listed them out.
Dixie because we love the history of our home and the owner attended Dixie College back in the day.
Awnings, pergolas, lattice covers, flat panels, insulated roofs, adjustable pergolas, Louvered roofs and many different types of patio covers that we have decades of experience building.
Decks of all types, brands and all the parts that go with them like railing and privacy screens.
Sunrooms, additions and screen porches have been a fantastic part of what we build. We love building them because of how much our clients have raved over them when we complete their projects. So if you have open space on your property we can build incredible places. If you have an existing covered patio and need it enclosed with glass or screen we can make that happen too.
How do louvered roofs work for shade control in Southern Utah's intense sun?
Adjustable louvers rotate to manage direct sunlight throughout the day, letting you shift from full shade to partial sun as temperatures change. This flexibility works well in St. George's climate where morning shade needs differ from afternoon heat. You control airflow and light without losing your outdoor view or ventilation. What's the difference between adjustable pergolas and awning pergolas?
Adjustable pergolas feature movable louvers or panels that you reposition based on weather and activity, while awning pergolas use fixed fabric or solid covers for consistent shade. Adjustable systems adapt to changing sun angles and seasonal needs. Awning styles provide permanent coverage for areas needing steady protection from heat. Why do deck materials matter in St. George's climate?
Southern Utah's heat, UV exposure, and low humidity cause some materials to crack, warp, or fade faster than in milder climates. Weather-resistant decking withstands temperature swings and intense sun without splitting or losing color. Material choice directly affects how often you'll need refinishing or board replacement over the deck's lifespan. When should you add a patio cover instead of a louvered roof?
Patio covers make sense when you want permanent, maintenance-free shade over a fixed outdoor area like a dining space or grill station. Louvered roofs suit areas where you'll want flexibility—adjusting for morning coffee in partial sun versus afternoon gatherings needing full shade. Budget and desired control level guide the choice. What changes after a screen porch gets installed?
You gain airflow and outdoor views without insects, dust, or direct sun exposure during peak heat hours. The space becomes usable during early mornings and evenings when bugs are most active. Furniture and cushions stay cleaner since the enclosure blocks wind-blown debris common in open desert environments. How does railing installation improve deck safety and appearance?
Railings prevent falls from elevated decks and stair edges while defining the deck's perimeter visually. Decorative styles add curb appeal and complement your home's exterior design. Weather-resistant railing materials maintain structural integrity and appearance despite St. George's UV intensity and temperature extremes. What's involved in adding a sunroom to an existing home?
Construction includes structural integration with your home's exterior, foundation work matching existing grade, and enclosure installation designed for natural light and insulation. The layout gets customized to fit your property's footprint and architectural style. You end up with climate-controlled space that functions year-round unlike seasonal patios. Can patio enclosures extend outdoor living into cooler months?
Enclosed patios block wind and retain ambient warmth, making fall and winter evenings more comfortable without full climate control. The protection allows furniture and entertainment setups to stay in place year-round. You gain usable square footage during months when open patios sit unused due to temperature or wind. What affects the cost of custom deck construction?
Material selection, deck size, elevation height, and design complexity all influence pricing. Multi-level layouts, integrated seating, or custom railing styles increase labor and material costs. Properties requiring grading, structural reinforcement, or extended material hauling due to access limitations also affect the total investment. Why do Southern Utah homeowners choose awning pergolas for patios?
Awning pergolas provide consistent shade over seating and dining areas where sun protection matters more than adjustability. They suit patios used primarily during peak heat hours when full coverage improves comfort. The fixed design requires less maintenance than adjustable systems while still enhancing outdoor entertaining functionality. How do home additions integrate with existing structure and exterior design?
Additions require structural connection to your home's foundation and framing, with exterior materials and rooflines matched to blend seamlessly. Custom layouts account for existing door and window placements, utility access, and property setbacks. Done correctly, the addition looks original rather than attached, maintaining architectural consistency and property value. What qualifies someone for teacher, service worker, or senior discounts?
